A recent discovery sailed right into the top spot for me and since visiting I have become slightly obsessed. (Booking brunch before even finishing dinner sort of obsessed.) But who could blame me? It’s very rare that you go out today, and can’t fault a restaurant at all. And in that regard, Darcie Green is a little gem bobbing around Paddington serving the tastiest Austrailian inspired food on a barge and one, that, in my mind, if you’re in the area you simply cannot miss. All aboard for full flavour, and full steam ahead for impeccable service. (You’re also eating on a barge, YES on a barge! Which is obviously pretty cool!)
Having stumbling across the restaurant-come-barge a few weeks ago when heading out for dinner with friends, where menu highlights would have to be their fried chicken and impossibly soft bao bun, sashimi grade tuna steak and last but not least the holy grail of puddings; the Melbourne Mars Bar cheesecake ball – and yes, it’s all it promises and more – I couldn’t help but return to test out their brunch.

So back I went, three friends in tow, to sample what is quickly being heralded as one of London’s best new brunch spots by all kinds of foodie-royalty, including lowly me.
Of course, we opted for the bottomless option (it was a Saturday after all) which entitles you to unlimited Mimosas or Prosecco – for two hours – and not just one, but two courses: Something sweet, and something for the day. A nice touch was that rather than refilling your glasses, you were actually entrusted to refill your own glass, from a bottle on the table. This made the whole event much classier than many other bottomless affairs I have experienced recently.
For my something sweet, nothing could get in-between me and their ‘award-winning banana bread sandwich.’ Complete with mascarpone, fresh berries, flaked almonds and honey, this gem is deserved of every single award that its won for the pioneering owner, Prue Freeman, and her team.

Next on the agenda for me was the much anticipated ‘Fancy bacon roll’. After stalking, yes stalking, their ‘insta-feed’ before brunch (as we all do) there was no way I wasn’t going to opt for this. Comprising of crispy onion crusted free range poached eggs and back bacon, the Ribman’s holy f*ck hollandaise (that’s not be trying to be cool and swearing, that really is its name) and fresh chillies all snuggled together in an open paratha roti. Now, you may be thinking OK a little bit much for breakfast. But this was I.N.S.A.N.E.

The crispy onions against the gooey eggs and ‘holy F*ck’ hollandaise was an absolutely holy matrimony indeed. And the way that the Chillies and a squeeze of lime cut through the richness of the source and yolks was sublime. This, plus one…two…three….four…five…you get the point…mimosas and I was one happy P.
All that is left to say is hats off to The Daisy Green Collection, their chefs really are rocking the boat, and for ALL the right reasons! I will be back soon, so expect more irresistible Aussi-food-spam!
All in all a fab evening out. And I honestly cannot criticise Darcie & May Green on any aspect. Food: Delish. Service: impeccable. Restaurant: need I say it again? YOU’RE ON A BARGE!
